¿Por qué el Geoparque de Granada es ÚNICO? Con César Viseras, Coordinador del Comité Científico

🎙️ We're launching a new interview series about the Granada Geopark. From Radio Castilléjar, and as part of our commitment to the Granada Geopark Landscape Charter, we're starting a series of programs dedicated entirely to highlighting the geological, paleontological, and cultural value of the Granada Geopark, recognized as a UNESCO Global Geopark since July 2020. This 4,722 km² territory, spread across 47 municipalities in the Guadix, Baza, and Huéscar regions, is home to 72 Sites of Geological Interest and boasts the best record of the continental Quaternary in Europe and one of the best in the world. 🧑‍🔬 Throughout this series, we will be joined by César Viseras, Professor of Stratigraphy at the University of Granada and, since May 2025, Coordinator of the Scientific Committee of the Granada Geopark. We will also welcome other exceptional guests who will contribute their expert perspectives on the region. This is the first episode of the series, and we're starting from the beginning: what is stratigraphy, what is a Geopark, how does it differ from a Natural or National Park, what UNESCO requires to grant the designation, and why does it take almost two decades to achieve it? 🕘 Program Content • Who is César Viseras and what is stratigraphy? • Why the Guadix-Baza Basin is a unique laboratory • What is a Geopark and how does it differ from other protected areas? • How many Geoparks are there in the world and why does Spain stand out? • What requirements does UNESCO set? • Why did our territory deserve the designation? • The new phase of the Scientific Committee • Activities of the 10th European Geoparks Week 📅 10th European Geoparks Week (May 23-31, 2026) Includes the bus tour "Exploring 10 Million Years in the Geopark," led by César Viseras on Wednesday, May 27. 🔔 Subscribe so you don't miss the next episodes of the series. #GranadaGeopark #UNESCO #Stratigraphy #Geotourism #Guadix #Baza #Huéscar #RadioCastilléjar #GeoparksWeek2026 #WorldHeritage
