[Anchor] The Seoul Metropolitan Government has announced a plan to ensure that residents can access the urban railway within a 10-minute walk from anywhere in Seoul. The plan involves constructing six urban railway lines, including the resumption of light rail projects in the Gangbuk and Gangseo districts, which had lost momentum due to a lack of feasibility. Reporter Han Woong-hee reports. [Reporter] The 3rd Urban Railway Network Plan announced by the Seoul Metropolitan Government. It focuses on improving railway accessibility for areas that are underserved by transportation. First, the city is resuming the "Gangbuk Cross-Line," which was also included in the 2nd Railway Network Plan. The Gangbuk Cross-Line, which connects Mokdong Station to Cheongnyangni Station over a distance of approximately 25 km, failed to pass the government's preliminary feasibility study two years ago and never even broke ground. The Seoul Metropolitan Government explained that it has improved business feasibility by reducing two stations from the existing route and improving the railway alignment. [Yeo Jang-kwon / Director General of the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s Transportation Bureau] "To further secure economic feasibility, we diverted the route toward the Sangam District and added a transfer function with the Daejang-Hongdae Line. By adjusting the alignment to match the current road conditions, we can reduce costs such as compensation expenses..." Similarly, the existing Mokdong Line plan, which failed the government’s preliminary feasibility study, will be re-pursued as the 'Seonam Line' with an expanded route. The Seonam Line, connecting Magoknaru Station to Gasan Digital Complex Station and Seobu Terminal Station to Dangsan Station, is scheduled to be reviewed for conversion to a government-funded project to enhance business viability. Previously, in the case of the Wirye-Sinsa Line, the Seoul Metropolitan Government successfully opened the line by converting it to a government-funded project when it became difficult to proceed with a private investment project. In addition to this, a total of six lines, including the 'Nangok Line' connecting Boramae Park Station to Nanhyang-dong, will be pursued with improved business feasibility. The Seoul Metropolitan Government projected that once the third railway network is completed, the average travel time to subway stations will decrease from 9.97 minutes to 8.03 minutes.
