UP 2594 Z-Train Intermodal North - W. Kile Road Railroad Crossing, Thornton CA

(Filmed July 11, 2025) Around the time I got the BNSF manifest, the UP ZLCTM intermodal stack train was passing through downtown Stockton. It was running VERY late this day as it had to drop off a set of bad ordered intermodal cars on a siding south of Merced before continuing. The z-train would sometimes be rerouted up the Fresno Subdivision in situations like this but that wasn’t the case. Since I was already in Thornton, I might as well catch it at W. Kile Road. You’ll notice some of the containers had open doors. This was my last catch of the day and first time I’ve done both Thornton crossings in one day. This crossing owned by Union Pacific is a mixed install with the close signal being a UP late 2010s install. The left signal is a UP mid 2010s install with a reused pair of side lights.
