The U.S.-Iran war began last February. Despite the agreement on a ceasefire MOU, tensions remain high within the international community. Since the Strait of Hormuz, at the center of the conflict, accounts for approximately 20% of global seaborne crude oil shipments, a single blockade of the strait would trigger an emergency alert for the energy security of many nations. In particular, South Korea’s dependence on Middle Eastern crude oil is about 70%, and its share of renewable energy ranks at the bottom of the OECD rankings. Now that the entire world is experiencing the energy crisis firsthand, how should South Korea move forward?
