How to get ahead by giving up | Julia Keller | TEDxOhioStateUniversity
In scads of self-help books and a ton of TED talks, grit is presented as the golden key to happiness and success. But what if we've had it all wrong? What if the secret to a better life -- and a better world -- isn't perseverance but a pause and a pivot? Join Dr. Julia Keller as she explores the cultural history of our negative view of quitting, and how -- paradoxically -- the road to a more just and tolerant world runs through surrender, not resolve. Julia Keller, a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, novelist, and screenwriter, is the author of an eight-volume mystery series, a three-volume science fiction series, as well as co-writer of the screenplay for the feature film "Spider & Jessie." Recipient of a Nieman Fellowship at Harvard University, she has taught at Princeton University, the University of Chicago, and the University of Notre Dame. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
