Despite being a number 5 size car (actually a number 3, as its engine displacement is between 2500-3000cc), the Toyota Progre achieved interior and exterior quality on par with the Celsior and was heavily promoted with the catchphrase "a small luxury car." This time, we drove an early model, manufactured in 1999(!), with a straight-six port injection 4-speed automatic transmission. With a conservative exterior that combines the essence of British cars like Jaguar and Rover with a Japanese aesthetic and an interior that is hysterically of the highest quality, this car is surprisingly often seen on the roads around Tokyo, considering its age.
