History of the Norfolk Southern AC44C6CF ~ A Failed Dash 9 Rebuild (Obscure Offerings Ep. 17)
NS 8520 was a one-off C44-9W rebuild using electrical equipment from CAF. She had a short career on Norfolk Southern post-rebuild, owing to several mechanical issues, and it's because of those issues that the AC44C6CF conversion was never repeated. Now the locomotive is owned by the Knoxville Locomotive Works and is apparently still going as a lease unit.
