Spider-Man’s Most UNDERRATED '90s Story
Welcome or welcome back to the stash! Invasion of the Spider-Slayers is one of those Spider-Man stories that I believe gets severely overlooked whenever people talk about the ’90s. On the surface, it’s a classic Spider-Man arc- robots hunting Peter Parker across New York, escalating danger, and one of his most obsessive enemies returning stronger than ever. But underneath all of that spectacle is a story that’s far more personal than it first appears. Written by David Michelinie and drawn by Mark Bagley, this arc balances action and character better than it ever gets credit for. Peter is dealing with the impossible return of his long-lost parents, Mary Jane is struggling under the emotional weight of loving Spider-Man, and the people closest to Peter are left behind to cope with fear, regret, and loss in quiet, devastating ways. The backup stories in this arc are especially powerful. They slow everything down to focus on Mary Jane, Aunt May, Liz Osborn, and Flash Thompson, and reminding us that the true cost of being Spider-Man isn’t just paid in bruises… it’s paid by the people who love him. In this video, I break down why Return of the Spider-Slayers deserves far more recognition than it gets, why the Michelinie and Bagley pairing works so incredibly well, and why this story still understands Peter Parker in a way many modern Spider-Man stories struggle to. _________________________________________________________________________________ Twitter/X - https://x.com/mn_stash Instagram - / mn_stash Membership - / @mnstash _________________________________________________________________________________ 00:00 - Welcome to the Stash! 02:14 - Why Invasion of the Spider Slayers is so Good! 07:38 - The Brilliance of the Backup Stoires 17:34 - A Truly Underrated Spider-Man Classic 18:55 - Comics From the Stash!
