I've always loved this song made famous by Elvis, but was surprised when I learned the origins of this tune. Plaisir d'amour is a French love song written in 1784 by Jean-Paul-Égide Martini, and forms the foundation for large parts of this song's melody. If you want to listen to my favourite version, look up Nana Mouskouri's performance here on Youtube. It seemed only fitting to include parts of that original melody in this version. What was old was made new, then made old again! The delightful art is from CODEX MANESSE/UNIVERSITATSBIBLIOTHEK HEIDELBERG/CC BY-SA 2.0. Lyrics: Wise men say only fools rush in But I cannot help falling in love with thee Shall I stay? Would it be a sin? If I cannot help falling in love with thee Like a river floweth surely to the sea For whither it goeth, some things are meant to be Take my hand Take all thou dost see For I cannot help falling in love with thee
