The LAST Song That The Guard Sing
This might be the last one to be singed, but I truly believe it would be the song most Guardsmen would embrace. I can almost picture the scene. One of them starts humming it, fully aware they’re cornered and that no support will arrive in time. Then another voice joins, and another, until even the sergeant or the captain starts singing. In that moment, they all find their resolve again, knowing that even if their time has come, they are not alone. They stand together, fighting for what is right. For the Emperor. For humanity. The original phrase “La Garde meurt mais ne se rend pas!” (“The Guard dies but does not surrender!”), usually attributed to General Pierre Cambronne, really struck me when I first read it. My immediate reaction was, “This feels incredibly Imperial Guard”, and that’s how we ended up here. Artwork by Alexey Virus. Orders bark across the vox, We die standing on these rocks. Planted firm where brothers fell, Names recited like a battle-bell. Magazines click their final round, We are duty-bound to this ground. The Guard dies, it does not retreat! The Guard dies, it does not retreat! Anchored firm where blood has dried, Until our lungs give out, we've tried. The Guard dies, it does not retreat! Commissar lifts his power sword, "Steel yourselves! For Him Enthroned!" Bayonets locked, las-fire bright, We are the Hammer's final strike. (Last Vox Communication) Officers bleed beside their brave men, Call to Him who sits holy and enthroned. Wounded soldiers ready to fight again, The final song for Humanity, at last intoned. The Guard dies, it does not retreat! The Guard dies, it does not retreat! Anchored firm where blood has dried, Until our lungs give out, we've tried. The Guard dies, it does not retreat! "Emperor witness… we… held…" THE GUARD DIES, IT DOES NOT RETREAT! THE GUARD DIES, IT DOES NOT RETREAT! Master of Mankind sees what we gave, Even if the trench becomes our grave! THE GUARD DIES, IT DOES NOT RETREAT!
