Here is a summary of the article I wrote, titled “God’s Family: Malachi 2:15 and Its Relationship to Predestination.” It’s an article that examines the doctrine of predestination from a slightly different perspective than is commonly accepted. For this piece, I used an unusual passage to introduce the topic: Malachi 2:15. We read it in a sermon, and God placed the theme of predestination on my heart as I read the passage. Therefore, I decided to write this article based on it. What I propose with this text (and others I cite in the article) is that the original purpose of creation was to form God’s family, where human beings are the offspring and image of the Creator. Under this view, sin is a rupture in that familial relationship with God, which He actively seeks to restore through His constant interactions with humanity by means of natural revelation, particular revelation, biblical testimony, and, of course, the life, death, and resurrection of Christ, who is God made man. This work also has a practical orientation. My intention is that this doctrine, instead of discouraging us or leading us into endless discussions, will encourage us in our daily lives in the Lord's presence. Instead of creating uncertainty about God's intentions, the aim is to provide the assurance that what we do in bearing witness to the Lord truly matters, is transcendent, and aligns with God's purpose and desire for humanity. Furthermore, I seek to highlight two points that I believe are greatly undervalued or forgotten in theology: The first is that God is love. The second is to recover the eschatological perspective and hope that abounds in the New Testament texts, which I believe shed light on understanding this topic better.
