Luis Calvo - Intermezzo N.3

This piece has basically different sections which are repeated. It starts off with a little introduction, and then the main theme appears. The second theme has the idea of imitation and slows down the momentum although it keeps flowing all the time. I really enjoyed he gave the piece more character and deeper meaning by adding the melancholic third part in f sharp minor. It was a bit unexpected, but fully convinced me of recording the composition. This part actually sounds really quite solid. Although it says Intermezzo, it feels like a (slow) dance, and the Da Capo in the end also fits to this style of music. The chosen tempo is probably a bit too fast for a Andante, but one of the "worst things" personally to happen in a recording is, if it feels totally dragged all the time, so I try to avoid that. The sweet spot is often hard to find, so I just rely on what sounds good at the very moment of recording the piece (could change every day for example interestingly). Calvo (1882-1945) was a colombian composer. He composed several intermezzi, songs, dances, waltzes, marches, tangos etc etc.
