Cultivation: Climate: Hot, dry climate. Needs 3200+ hours sunshine yearly. Grows best in 25-40°C. Oman is ideal. Soil: Sandy loam, well drained. Tolerates salinity up to 12,000 ppm. pH 7.0-8.0. Water: Mature tree needs 150-200 liters per day in summer. Drip irrigation best. Propagation: Mainly by offshoots/suckers from mother tree. Tissue culture also used now. Seed grown palms take 8-10 years to fruit and 50% are male. Spacing: 8m x 8m or 10m x 10m. About 100-150 trees per hectare. Pollination: Manual pollination needed. 1 male palm for 50 female palms.
