Bf109G-14: Gun Pods vs Bombers Over Cologne, Late 1944

Wanted to fly another bomber intercept to feel the difference in power and armament between last mission’s Bf109K-4 (single 30mm cannon) and this mission’s Bf109G-14/R6 (3x 20mm cannons). The G-14 has a lower max boost for slower acceleration but is better in turns (though the gun pods ruin that!). My verdict, I would choose the K-4 over the G-14 and never the gun pods. My “Goods”: Good situational awareness and 3D mental modeling of the escorts’ relative position. Good idea to use the Sun, the angle was favorable, but they found me before I could make it work. Good decision to press against the bombers after the escorts sighted me. Good gunnery (except for on the 2nd bomber of my fist pass). Good judgment in assuming that an escort was on my 6 after the third kill, maneuvering defensively even before gaining sight. Good engine management overall, though I should have used more boost after my third kill. My “Others”: I wasted too much time initially following the fighters, should have made my decision earlier. I did not Check 6 enough during my 2nd engagement with the bombers. I got a touch overconfident the escorts’ distance away and they closed fast! Poor rudder control during my last two kills. You can’t feel yaw in a sim, but that’s no excuse. — This is my longest video and has a more thorough Debrief style with more situational awareness tools. I really enjoy the tactics breakdowns. But I will also continue to make videos that are shorter and more dramatic.
