Behind it all, Merapi also has a considerable threat danger to devastated the people who lives around Merapi. Through the history, since 1548 Merapi activities been recorded has erupted nearly 70 times. The characteristic of Merapi eruption is Effusive, but that does not rule out the posibility Merapi eruption being Explosive. The explosive sound of Merapi eruption in 1782 reached 400 km away, and could be heard up over the Java island. 100 years later, with the same characteristics with 1872's eruption, Merapi erupted again in October 20th, 2010. 368 people were dead adn 3000 houses were destroyed. The high rates of loss due to the eruption of Merapi caused by the lack of public knowledge about the science of volcano. Geological disaster research and technology development center ( Balai penyelidikan dan pengembangan kebencanaan gunungapi) as a state agencies which researching and monitoring Merapi activities, are aimed to acknowleged public about the threat of Merapi as a volcano, to reduce the number of the deaths caused by Merapi eruption in the future. Mahaguru Merapi is a film that explaining about the history and the characteristic of Mount Merapi. The first sequence of Mahaguru Merapi are telling about Merapi basic information, like its geoligical characteristic, the culture of people who live around Merapi, nature resources potential, Merapi History, and also the hazardous threat of Merapi. The second sequence are explaining the beggining of Merapi eruption activites in early 2010. The research and monitoring that Geological disaster research and technology development center about Merapi geological and chemical change inside the Merapi. The third sequence are explaining about Merapi eruption that happens in September 2010. From how its morfology changed, the process to rise Merapi danger level, and what happens after its eruption. The last sequence are explaining about how to reduce the number of lost by planning mitigation, based on state legislation about the spatial planning and disaster handling. The mitigiation efforts also done by community capacity building through the required disaster trainings and early warning systems. Through this film, Geological disaster research and technology development center are aimed to acknowledged public about the threath of Merapi as a volcano, to reduce the number of lost caused by the public's lack of knowledge about Merapi from the scientific side.
