Église Notre-Dame-en-Sa-Nativité de WASSY (Haute-Marne)

La construction de l'église d'est en ouest doit dater du milieu du XIIe siècle et le portail occidental pourrait remonter à 1180. L'église comprenait à l'origine trois absides semi-circulaires, un transept, une nef à trois vaisseaux et un massif occidental. Les chapelles latérales sont postérieures et furent élevées entre le XVe et le XVIIIe siècle. L'édifice subit des destructions en 1544 puis en 1591 : l'abside principale et l'absidiole sud furent alors reconstruites avec des chevets plats. L'absidiole nord ne nécessitant pas de restauration, elle conserva sa forme semi-circulaire. Le massif occidental, qui à l'origine devait s'élancer plus haut, fut doté d'une toiture perpendiculaire à celle de la nef et des collatéraux, cette dernière datant, elle aussi, du début du XVIIe siècle. C'est sans doute à la Révolution que le décor du portail principal fut mutilé. On y trouve également un orgue Louis Le Bé du XVIIe siècle et des vitraux du XVe-XXe siècle. ******** The construction of the church from east to west likely dates from the mid-12th century, and the western portal could date back to 1180. Originally, the church comprised three semicircular apses, a transept, a nave with three aisles, and a western tower. The side chapels are later additions, built between the 15th and 18th centuries. The building suffered damage in 1544 and again in 1591: the main apse and the southern apse were then rebuilt with flat chevet walls. The northern apse, not requiring restoration, retained its semicircular shape. The western tower, originally intended to rise higher, was provided with a roof perpendicular to that of the nave and aisles, the latter also dating from the early 17th century. It was likely during the Revolution that the decoration of the main portal was mutilated. There is also a 17th-century Louis Le Bé organ and stained glass windows dating from the 15th to the 20th centuries.
