According to YAMAP, I've climbed over 100 mountains. I'm a salaryman who enjoys hiking and mountain climbing about once a month. I live in Kanagawa Prefecture, so I mainly enjoy mountains near the Kanto region that are considered beginner-friendly. I've tried a variety of hikes, from day trips to camping, but as I'm generally a weakling and a bit of a wimp, the term "beginner-friendly" has given me a lot of challenges. While I mainly introduce mountains for beginners, I also hope to share the things to be careful of, the tough parts, and the thrills that come after the struggles. If you enjoy my videos, please support me by subscribing and liking my channel. [Recommended Time to Visit Mt. Daisen] I've been to Mt. Daisen about seven times. My first climb was in the middle of summer in August, when it was extremely hot. I wasn't in great shape and suffered from mild heatstroke, so I wouldn't recommend it. This was my first time climbing Mt. Daisen during the autumn foliage season. It was also my first time seeing the autumn leaves at Mt. Daisen-ji Temple and Afuri Shrine, and I highly recommend it as there are more things to see overall. I've also been there a couple of times in the winter, where the views are great and the chances of seeing Mt. Fuji are much higher. I also imagine the views of Sagami Bay and downtown Tokyo are beautiful, so I recommend it! [My Climbing Info] *From YAMAP Activity History Total Time: 5:39 Break Time: 0:54 Active Time Excluding Breaks: 4:45 Distance Walked: 7.8km Total Elevation Gain (Ascent): 982m Total Elevation Gain (Descent): 980m [Recommended Points of Mt. Daisen] Choose from a variety of courses, from a 3-hour beginner course to a steep climb with a total elevation gain of 1000m. Ample facilities at Afuri Shrine, Daisen Temple, the summit, and the surrounding area (teahouses and restrooms). Experience the ancient faith of the Oyama Omotesando trail. Autumn foliage scenery centered around Daisen Temple. Views of Mt. Fuji (Fujimidai, Ybitsu Pass Junction, Mt. (Behind the summit) Views of Sagami Bay and downtown Tokyo (Afuri Shrine, summit, observation deck) Good access from downtown Tokyo (proximity to the interchange, number of buses from the station) [Things to Know About Mt. Oyama] Long, steep climbs that are difficult for beginners, even using the cable car Summer heat and heatstroke hazards Summit teahouse opening hours (irregular holidays) Crowded on weekends and holidays, full parking lot Conclusion This mountain is often recommended for beginners, and while it's understandable given its well-maintained trails, day-trip options, teahouses, restrooms, and other facilities, and accessibility, I think it's best to challenge it knowing that the steep climbs are long and challenging. Of course, there are easier routes, but they inevitably reduce access and entertainment value, so I think it's best to start with the classics. If you're unsure whether you should climb Mt. Oyama, I recommend climbing other mountains like Mt. Tsukuba, Mt. Kintoki, or Mt. Takao before deciding.
