Sztynort: Kwatera Joachima von Ribbentropa i MSZ - Niemieckie Kwatery Dowodzenia na Mazurach #4

During World War II, on Hitler's orders, the Germans built a complex of headquarters in the Great Masurian Lakes region, serving as their central command center. In addition to Adolf Hitler's well-known headquarters, the Wolf's Lair, quarters were also built for individual troops and leaders of the Third Reich. In less than five days, in July 2019, I decided to visit all the existing headquarters and present them in the next installments of the series entitled: German Command Headquarters in Masuria. In this installment, I invite you on a short trip to Sztynort. Sztynort is one of the most charming places on the map of Warmia and Masuria. The local port attracts many sailors and tourists. The baroque palace towering over the village bears no resemblance to the gigantic bunkers of the Wolf's Lair or the equally impressive structures in Mamerki, yet it was here that Joachim von Ribbentrop, the Third Reich's Minister of Foreign Affairs, set up his headquarters during World War II. Ribbentrop's quarters included his special train, "Westfalen," which was stationed at the Kamionek Wielki train station, 4 km from Sztynort, and the "Waldhaus" complex. The most interesting element of this place's World War II history, however, is the fact that one wing of the palace housed the Minister of Foreign Affairs, while the other housed Heinrich von Lehndorff, a plotter planning to assassinate Adolf Hitler. I invite you to learn more about the history of this place. Visit us:   / mazurskietajemnice     / mazurskietajemnice
