What is active thermography?
What is active thermography? Active thermography analyzes an object or process without naturally occurring thermal distribution. In other words, no temperature differences are present. With active thermography, the object of interest is thermally, mechanically, or electrically stimulated with an external source (in this example, a halogen lamp). The excitation creates a dynamic temperature gradient inside the object. Suppose a defect is present inside the object. In that case, it interrupts the heat flow from the excitation source, causing a variation in the temperature distribution at the object's surface. This variation is viewable with an infrared camera. Active thermography systems typically use a computer to record the object's surface temperatures as a function of time. Analysis of the IR image recordings reveals defects within the object. #activethermography #nondestructivetesting #ndt #scienceteaching Visit us at https://movitherm.com/ to learn more about infrared thermography!
