Dumbrava – locul unde speranța a învins abandonul | Octombrie 2019 | Arhiva AOTV

In the context of recent events and debates in the public space, we are republishing this reportage made in October 2019, filmed in Dumbrava. At the time of the material, hundreds of people whom the system had nowhere else to send were finding shelter, care and dignity in the village of Dumbrava, in Bihor County. Sick people without family or abandoned by their family, homeless people and people in difficult social situations arrived here after being directed by hospitals, city halls or other state institutions. The project had begun 14 years earlier, in the two rooms of Viorel Pașca's house, and in 2019 it had grown to include 16 houses in Dumbrava and Tinca, where over 400 people received food, care, treatment and, above all, love. By then, almost 2,000 people had gone through this work. Viorel Pașca said at the time that he never imagined that a project started without financial resources would end up offering hope to so many people. Over the years, the work has been supported by the generosity of donors, many of whom remain unknown. Beyond medical care and material support, the Dumbrava mission aimed to offer dignity and love to every person. For those who could no longer understand a sermon, the Gospel took the form of a hug, a warm meal and an outstretched hand.
