Become an Ecstatic Dance DJ - Step by Step guide
Ecstatic Dance DJ online course: www.ecstatic-dj.com In this video I’ll retrace the steps I took to become an Ecstatic Dance DJ. I’ll give you a guide on which steps to take so that you can start your journey on becoming an Ecstatic Dance DJ.. 1. This might seem obvious but.. join Ecstatic Dance events. Develop an understanding of what an Ecstatic Dance set is. Get a feel for how it is to dance to those sets yourself. Immersive yourself fully and pay attention to what the DJ is doing! This will help you tremendously later on when you have to steer the crowd yourself. 2. As you’re attending Ecstatic Dance session, I recommend you connect with the DJ. Show your enthusiasm about becoming a DJ yourself. Ask for the track ID’s (fancy word for song name) of those particular tracks that resonated with you. All the DJ’s I have spoken to, loved it when I showed interest in learning. Later on, those connections can become very helpful when you want to perform at a venue! 3. Before spending any money, you can already start collecting songs. This is a process that takes time anyway so why not start already? If you eventually decide to take the next step and to invest in gear, you need those tracks to DJ with.. So start collecting! I would advice to save those songs in a dedicated Spotify playlist. What also helped me when I started was to listen to Ecstatic Dance mixes from my favourite DJ’s on Soundcloud & Mixcloud. This helped me to get a better understanding of the flow of an ecstatic dance set. I would also shazam a lot of those songs.. (don’t tell anyone). 4. Make your first Ecstatic Dance Set using Spotify. Create a new list in which you’ll make your first set and fill it up with the songs that you want in your set. In the right top corner select “custom order”, and drag them in the order you want. See if you can already create some sort of an Ecstatic Dance flow with your tracks. Then open the settings of Spotify, select crossfade and set a desired time. This will help smooth out those transitions.. Congrats! you have created your first Ecstatic Dance Set! Invite some friends and dance to it! 5. By now you should have a good understanding if you want to continue pursuing Ecstatic Dance DJing. Your Spotify sets are a fun way to start without spending anything, but they’re ofc very limited.. It’s time to invest in your first DJ controller so that you can start mixing those tracks of yours! 6. At this point you’re ready to learn how to DJ. Here are your options; 1. Figure it out yourself. Together with Youtube video’s and a lot of trial and error you can learn how to DJ. 2. Find a DJ mentor in your surroundings and take 1 on 1 lessons. 3. Join an exclusive retreat and take an in-person course. 4. Or d take an online course. When I started a did bit of figuring it out myself, and I paid a mentor for 1 on 1 lessons. Here’s the problem though, Ecstatic Dance DJing is different then traditional DJing, so youtube could teach me the basics of doing transitions, but it couldn’t teach me how to go from those very high climax songs, to say a classical songs. Or how to make a two hour set that would tell a story and that would feel engaging. The 1 on 1 lessons were somewhat helpful but being a DJ doesn’t mean being a teacher. Besides, it was getting a bit expensive. Because I didn’t want to invest 1000’s on a retreat, joining one wasn’t an option for me. That’s why I searched for online courses to properly learn how to become an ecstatic dance dj.. When I couldn’t find one, I decided to team up with DJ Divana to make one ourselves. So, a lot of roads lead to rome but I hope that now you have a better understanding of the steps you have to take to become an Ecstatic Dance DJ.
