We Finally Explored What's Hiding Under Our Water Tower...

After clearing the ivy around our abandoned Edwardian water tower, we uncovered some hidden chambers, confined spaces and brick structures in the undergrowth and we will explore them in this video! Before we could go inside, we had to pump it out, set up scaffolding and a lifting system, and make sure it was safe to enter. Once inside, we started digging out years of rubbish and clues to how the original water system may have worked. We also used the time to survey the site with a Leica GNSS receiver and trace underground services around the tower as we continue planning the restoration and self-build journey. We’re documenting the full journey of restoring this historic industrial water tower and transforming the site into our home. Before we can convert the tower, we need to stabilise and restore the structure, remove the existing barn, and self-build a new home on its footprint. The plan includes creating a large landscaped garden of nearly 1.5 acres that will eventually become a wildlife friendly haven.
