The Sooty Show - High As A Kite

Sooty has made himself a box kite, but Sweep accidentally breaks it. Fortunately though, Sooty has lots more he's made, but Soo doesn't think that any of them will fly, so they all go to see Matthew for advice about kites. When Matthew sees Sooty's kite he makes fun of it and tells him it needs to be more aerodynamic like the paper aeroplane he's made. He shows Sooty how to make a paper aeroplane and promises that they can all go and fly his kite later. Sweep and Soo go to have a wash in the bathroom and Sweep pretends to be an aeroplane which Soo finds very irritating, especially when Sweep drops his toy plane into her bath. Meanwhile, Sooty draws a picture of a kite then uses his magic wand to make it into the real thing. Sooty, Sweep, Soo and Matthew go out to fly their kites, but Matthew starts boasting how he's the best at it. But flying a kite isn't as easy as Matt thinks and he ends up making a fool of himself. Matthew makes an excuse for his failure, saying his kite was not large enough, so Sooty uses his magic wand to magic Matthew into a hang-glider. The wind starts to blow and Matthew is carried off up into the sky. Later back at home, Matthew tells Sooty, Sweep and Soo that he is finished with kites and hang-gliders forever. Then he reads a story Sweep has written himself called 'The Rescue', which is all about how Superdog rescued a silly man called Matthew stuck up in the air in a hang-glider.
