Vintage Lavender Decoupage Box – Wood Patina & Rust Effect Tutorial

Decoupage a vintage lavender box from a plain wooden chest using rice paper, a damask stencil and a real rust effect on the metal wreath. Full step-by-step decoupage tutorial with aged patina and chalky paint. In this video I take a raw wooden box and turn it into a soft lavender keepsake. You'll see how I lay the rice paper, build the damask pattern with structure paste and a stencil, paint the chalky base, and age the edges for that worn vintage look. The lavender wreath and the little sprig inside the lid are mix media cardboard pieces, coloured and then treated with a rust effect set so the metal looks naturally weathered. I also walk through the colour mixing for the purple and green tones, and the distressing that ties the whole box together. If you've never tried the rust effect on cardboard, this is a good one to start with — it's forgiving and the result always looks older than it is.
