Is it possible for a harmonic oscillator to exist with only 3 electrically charged objects? This is a physics exercise to put into practice concepts of force related to Newton's second law, Coulomb's law of electric force, and the differential equation that characterizes any type of simple harmonic motion (simple harmonic oscillator). By analyzing the resulting force, it is possible to describe that the system behaves according to the equation of motion of a simple harmonic oscillator (simple harmonic motion – SHM), and consequently, obtain the oscillation period of the system. It is shown that the oscillation period depends on the mass of the oscillating object, the charges of the system, and the distance between the equilibrium position of the oscillating charge in relation to the fixed charges.
