He was born in Ankara on June 11, 1923. His real name was Halit Özdemir Arun. His father, Mehmet Asaf, was a member of the Council of State. In 1930, the year his father died, he entered the first year of Galatasaray High School. In 1941, in the 11th grade, he passed an additional exam and transferred to Kabataş Boys' High School, graduating in 1942. He attended the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Economics (until the third year), and the Faculty of Journalism for one year. During this time, he worked at the Tanin and Zaman newspapers and did translations. His first article appeared in the magazine Servet-i Fünûn (Awakening). In 1951, he founded the Sanat Printing House and published his books under the name Yuvarlak Masa Yayınları (Round Table Publications). In 1962, he was one of the founders of the Association for the Preservation of Fundamental Rights, founded under the leadership of Mehmet Ali Aybar. Özdemir Asaf, who passed away on January 28, 1981, had a daughter named Seda from his first wife, Sabahat Selma Tezakın, and three sons named Gün, Olgun, and Etkin from his second wife, Yıldız Moran.
