The Mineral System Concept: The Essential Key to understanding and targeting for mineral deposits. The science of economic geology is rapidly maturing beyond its infant stage of a focus on descriptive classification to an integrated process-based framework with real predictive power. This framework, commonly referred to as the Mineral Systems Concept has, at its heart, the basic physical processes that are required to make any ore deposit and which are therefore universal in application. Critically important to this framework is the concept of scale – the very large scales, and integration across orders of magnitude of scale, importantly both in time and space.
