May is the start of the seaweed season for Punta Cana, and 2026 was forecasted to be another heavy year for the Caribbean, so some patches of brown weed on the sand are expected. How it looks really depends on the day, the wind, and how aggressively each resort cleans the shoreline. Most of the big properties along this stretch run beach grooming crews early in the morning, so by mid-day many sections are walkable and the water itself is clear and turquoise. Weather is typical for the season — daytime highs around 87°F, water around 82°F, with quick afternoon showers possible. This walk covers six resorts on the southern part of the Bávaro strip. Secrets Royal Beach Punta Cana Adults-only all-inclusive with around 639 rooms, part of the Hyatt Inclusive Collection. Sits next door to Dreams Royal and shares the same beachfront. Went through a roughly $36M renovation a few years back that added new room categories with private pools, an Olympic-size pool, lazy river, and updated dining venues. AAA Four Diamond rated. Active vibe with a nightclub and entertainment programming — more couples and groups than honeymoon-quiet. Dreams Royal Beach Punta Cana Family-friendly sister property to Secrets, around 460–480 rooms, also Hyatt Inclusive Collection. Has Explorer's Club for kids, Core Zone for teens, multiple pools, and shared access to some Secrets facilities. Paradisus Palma Real Resort Part of the Meliá group, around 550 rooms plus a separate adults-only section called The Reserve. Colonial-Spanish architecture, large central pool and courtyard, eight to ten restaurants including a signature fine-dining venue from a Michelin-starred chef (extra fee for the tasting menu). Includes green fees at Cocotal Golf nearby. Meliá Caribe Beach Resort Large family-focused complex of around 600 rooms in two- and three-story bungalow buildings, also Meliá group. On-site water park (Splash Island), kids' club from age 8 months, casino, and around ten restaurants. Was previously known as Meliá Caribe Tropical and was split off from the adults-only side during rebranding. Meliá Punta Cana Beach – Adults Only The adults-only counterpart to Meliá Caribe, located right next door. Marketed as a wellness-focused property, with the Rafa Nadal Tennis Center on site, YHI Spa, four pools, and six-plus restaurants. The Level is the upgraded category with butler service, a private lounge, and rooms closer to the beach. Smaller and quieter than Lopesan or Paradisus, but still a full-scale resort rather than a boutique. Lopesan Costa Bávaro The newest large property on this part of Bávaro, opened in 2019, Spanish-owned, 5-star, around 1,050 rooms. Six freshwater pools, ten-plus restaurants, large spa, casino, and a dedicated Adults Only Club section within the complex. Big-resort scale and modern European-style design.
