A Flip Through The Book of Colour Concepts - Volume 1
When I saw this book advertised on Instagram, I thought to myself: I have to have it. Then I saw the price - £150... Luckily, my birthday was coming up soon so I didn't have to wait long to add it to my personal library. The Book of Colour Concepts has two volumes and discusses colour theories between 1686-1963. The book is multilingual and contains text in English, French, German and Spanish. It has more than 1,000 high quality images to discuss more than 65 works about colour theory. This book won't teach you how to pick the best colour combination for your art (although it has plenty of inspiration) - it's a book about colour theory, and it is fascinating to read how people before the digital age theorised about colour and what the practical suggestions were. Volume 1 discusses early colour charts and wheels as well as the rise of colour theory and development of colour standards. Volume 2 focusses on the teaching of colour, the colour theory development in the early 20th century, and the colour and its place in spirituality and music. This book is for slow reading, you need to take time to appreciate the beautiful, luxurious images and the knowledge and research that was required for this book.
