Tumore della vescica: AIFA approva durvalumab, cambia la pratica clinica
For the first time, immunotherapy, both before and after surgery (perioperative regimen), improves survival in muscle-invasive bladder cancer. The Italian Medicines Agency (AIFA) has approved the reimbursement of durvalumab in combination with chemotherapy (gemcitabine and cisplatin) as neoadjuvant treatment, i.e., before radical cystectomy (complete surgical removal of the bladder), followed by durvalumab as adjuvant monotherapy in patients with resectable muscle-invasive bladder cancer. We discussed this with Prof. Lorenzo Antonuzzo, Director of the Clinical Oncology Unit at Careggi University Hospital, Department of Experimental and Clinical Medicine, University of Florence.
