Testing the 7MM Buoyancy Myth

Testing the 7MM Buoyancy Myth    • Testing the 7MM Buoyancy Myth   In today's video, Instructor Trainer Bryan Stafford test a myth about 7mm wetsuits. The myth states that 7mm wetsuits are too dangerous to dive to a depth of 100 feet, due to the compression rate of the nylon neoprene. According to some training agencies, a diver must over weight themselves to descend past a given depth because of how buoyant a 7mm wetsuit is. Then the myth goes on to claim that in the event a diver has a catastrophic failure with his or her BCD, they would not be able to physically swim back to the surface without ditching over half of the weights. Given the amount of weight that must be ditched, a diver would then have an uncontrollable ascent once a certain depth was reached, and would be unable to perform a 3 minute safety stop.
