He shared its significance with his children, narrating how this location symbolised unity among the iwi or tribe in the past. After World War 2, he employed this song as a means to advocate for unity among diverse cultures. Tūtira Mai Ngā Iwi has gained in popularity particularly at sporting events as another New Zealand anthem.
