High Peak Trail Derbyshire in a day

The High Peak Trail in the Peak District is an old railway track opened in 1831 to carry minerals between two canals. In 1971 it was bought by the National Park and made into a pathway for walkers, cyclists and horse riders. There are three old railway lines in the Peak District that have been converted in this way, and they all offer a fantastic opportunity to almost anybody to experience the stunning Peak District landscape. The High Peak Trail runs for 17 miles, and on a somewhat bleak winters day four of us set off from High Peak Junction near Cromford to walk the complete route and explore some of it's history.
