Cannabis Induced Psychosis - The Science, part 1 - The THC Connection

In this presentation, Part 1 of Dr. Catherine Antley’s talk on Cannabis-Induced Psychosis, Dr. Antley—a Vermont pathologist and founding board member of the International Academy on the Science and Impact of Cannabis—shares her decade-long journey studying the relationship between high-potency marijuana and severe mental illness. After testifying before Vermont lawmakers during the push to legalize cannabis, Dr. Antley connected with world-renowned schizophrenia researcher Sir Robin Murray, whose findings confirmed that cannabis can directly cause psychosis and, in some cases, schizophrenia that would not exist otherwise. Drawing on international research from the U.K., Denmark, and beyond, she explains how rising THC concentrations have led to increased psychosis rates, especially among young users. Dr. Antley warns that despite industry claims of safety and medical benefit, evidence shows cannabis can worsen conditions like PTSD and increase suicide risk, underscoring the urgent need for unbiased science, honest education, and responsible public policy.
