Kyosho Mini-Z Buggy Brushless MB-010VE: Tuning for Better Jumps
Today we are going to tune the front suspension setup of the Mini-Z Buggy MB-010VE 2.0. Earlier I installed the red big bore shocks (MBW037). They are quite plush but the front feels too soft. The back on the other hand does feel pretty spot on. To avoid excessive bottoming out during jumps and landings, let's put in a pair of stiffer springs. I picked up this big bore shock spring set (MBW038) from quite a while back. Interestingly, Kyosho included these springs in the more expensive gold big bore shocks (MBW037G-SPB), but with the red shock oil is included instead. The spring set comes with 3 color coded pairs. There are no instructions though, surprisingly. Going by feel, the red is the softest, green is medium, and the yellow is the firmest. To swap the springs, the shocks need to be detached first. This is a good time to verify there's no binding with the suspension action. The stock big bore springs seem to have the same spring rate as the green ones. The big bore shocks are kind of expensive and the performance aren't much better than stock, but they look awesome. After swapping in the yellow springs, the front suspension definitely feels firmer. The buggy still handles the drop test brilliantly. I'm always amazed by how well the Mini-Z buggy shocks work. Here are some 25% slow motion footage of jumps with the stock front springs. With this ramp the jumps are nose heavy. Here are some jumps after installing the harder yellow springs on the front. Some jumps are still nose heavy but on average the buggy jumps more neutrally. This is true at least for this particular ramp. One additional bonus is handling in general outside of jumping and landing. The soft front big bore shocks were causing oversteering. The harder springs now make handling more neutral as well. It's been a while since there's a video on the Mini-Z Buggy. I hope you enjoyed the video! This is Sammy and thanks for watching!
