Flying in the Highlands of Iceland Part II

This is part II of our flying trip on 6th and 7th of July 2016. We flew on two Jodel airplanes in Iceland around the biggest glacier in Europe. The area around the glacier Vatnajökull in Iceland is amazing. We did a two day trip and spent the night in Djúpivogur in east Iceland. Amazing night of beauty in the evening sun. This video starts with the second day in Djúpivogur. We flew straight to the highlands a 20 minute flight to Eyjabakkar, an area that was planned to sink under a reservoir for a hydroelectric dam in the beginning of the millenium. Natural conservatives including Haukur Snorrason the photographer in the red Jodel stopped those plans with their protest and bringing this area to the publics attention with photos and words in 1999. But instead of sinking Eyjabakkar, the National Power Company (Landsvirkjun) made a huge dam near Kárahnjúkar and transformed a huge unspoiled area into a reservoir just to use all the electricity from the hydroelectric dam to power one aluminum factory for a foreign corporation ALCOA.
