IBL 2026 Annual Conference: Welcome Address

The Welcome Address opens the 2026 Institute on Black Life Annual Conference, “Black Life in Higher Education and Beyond,” and sets the tone for a day dedicated to scholarship, dialogue, and community engagement. This session features welcoming remarks from: Dr. Will Tyson, Director of the Institute on Black Life Dr. Jody Harwood, Associate Dean, College of Arts and Sciences, University of South Florida Jordan Battle, Assistant Director of Student Research, Institute on Black Life The program also includes a performance of "Lift Every Voice and Sing," often referred to as the Black National Anthem, honoring the rich history, resilience, and contributions of Black communities while celebrating the collective spirit of the conference. As the University of South Florida's Institute on Black Life continues its mission of supporting research, education, and community engagement, this opening session invites attendees to reflect on the significance of Black life in higher education and beyond while preparing for a day of meaningful learning and connection.
