Hey everyone, in this video I'll show you how to install a high-flow air filter. Although the installation will be done on a Jetta MK6, this video can serve as a guide for installation on other vehicles. To carry out this project, I purchased the following air intake kit, since one of its advantages is the ability to section the tubing into four parts, giving us more options for fitting the conical filter. Another advantage is that it includes three nozzles and a hose that, in this case, will help us connect the crankcase breather. The disadvantage of this product is that both the tubing and the nozzles are made of plastic. To filter the air, I purchased this 3” conical air filter from EDELBROCK. My recommendation is that if you plan to make this modification to your engine, don't use just any universal or questionable brand filter, as these lack the capacity to filter small particles and your engine will be affected in the long run. We'll begin by removing the clamps and bolts that hold the air intake pipes from the original installation. To remove the filter housing, we must grasp the cover with its rigid, thick edges; otherwise, there's a risk of breaking it. We also remove the crankcase breather. Now, the section of pipe we'll use to install the conical filter is the 45° angle pipe. We'll assemble it to test the parts on the engine and identify any potential problems. With the parts in place, we can see that everything fits well, and it's time to decide where to connect the crankcase breather pipe. I decided to place this hole at the top of the pipe. The hole we drill must be the same diameter as the pre-drilled inlets on the air intake pipe we purchased. It's necessary to remove a gasket. The air intake kit we bought includes three plastic nozzles of different diameters. We'll take the smallest diameter nozzle and install it on the pipe coming from the crankcase. We'll reinforce the connection with high-temperature silicone. If your kit includes a throttle body gasket, now's the time to install it. If it doesn't include the gasket, don't worry, it will still work fine. Now we proceed to install the parts and make sure to tighten all the bolts on the high-flow kit. To finish the installation, we'll use the largest nozzle from our kit and connect the other end of the crankcase breather hose to the hole we drilled in the air intake pipe. We'll use a size 6 worm gear clamp. It's important to ensure that both our hoses and the conical air filter are secure and not loose. We need to secure our installation to fixed points.
