Hollywood’s Forgotten Star: The Tragic Fate of Jack Wild

Jack Wild was a British actor best known for playing the Artful Dodger in Oliver! (1968), a role that earned him an Academy Award nomination at age 16. He also starred in the children’s TV series H.R. Pufnstuf, becoming a teen idol. However, sudden fame led to heavy drinking and career instability. Work became sporadic as his struggles with alcohol worsened. In later years, he battled oral cancer, losing part of his tongue, but eventually achieved sobriety and returned to acting in smaller roles. Wild died in 2006 at age 53, remembered both for his early brilliance and his difficult journey through fame and addiction.
