Richard Rohr, Rev. Dr. Cynthia Bourgeault, and William Paul Young | Trinity: The Soul of Creation

This series of talks was delivered at a conference hosted by the Center for Action and Contemplation titled Trinity: The Soul of Creation from April 6-8, 2017, in Albuquerque, NM. Keynote speakers Fr. Richard Rohr, Rev. Dr. Cynthia Bourgeault, and William Paul Young “come together to reveal a three-dimensional view of the many-sided Mystery. The Trinity is the foundation and template for the entire universe. Belief in a Trinitarian God is not primarily a Christian theological revelation as much as it is a metaphor for the nature of reality, both seen and unseen.” In this first official session of the conference the three keynote speakers, Fr. Richard Rohr, Rev. Dr. Cynthia Bourgeault, and William Paul Young, engage in discussion about the Trinity and what they hope to explore about it throughout the conference. Fr. Richard begins teaching that the Trinity comes down to what Cynthia calls “the Law of Three.” In “the law of two” there is no dynamic flow, but the Trinity is a flow. He argues that we firstly have to change most peoples’ operative image of God which is often an angry white man with a beard. This image is not only wrong but it creates the paradigm of an unsafe universe. He argues, rather, that “the message of the cross, at least in my opinion, is not a statement about Divine violence; it’s a statement about human violence.” CENTER FOR ACTION AND CONTEMPLATION The Center for Action and Contemplation (CAC) is an educational nonprofit introducing seekers to the contemplative Christian path of transformation. Founded by Richard Rohr in 1987, our programs and resources are designed to help deepen prayer practice and strengthen compassionate engagement in the world. https://cac.org Subscribe: https://bit.ly/3QypRgu Learn more about Who We Are: https://bit.ly/3D8TtdU Learn more about What We Do: https://bit.ly/3qrYFGc Learn more about Richard Rohr: https://bit.ly/3ozYdmP Learn more about Contemplation: https://bit.ly/3wNojGF
