The 1969 Copa Libertadores was unique in that neither the Brazilian nor the Argentinian leagues sent their two qualified teams to the tournament for various reasons. This meant that the two South American giants were absent from the continental competition, with the exception of Estudiantes de La Plata, the reigning champion. Today we will explore the reasons why both leagues chose not to participate and review that edition of the tournament.
