It opened in 1979: the Ludwigshafen Town Hall Center. A 72-meter-high building that for many years housed the town hall and primarily served as a shopping center. In April 2019, the city of Ludwigshafen purchased the Town Hall Center, including all associated costs, for approximately €46 million. Last September, the city council decided to demolish it to make way for a ground-level city street, which will replace the elevated highway. The demolition is expected to cost over €50 million.
