The Man Who Invented the Guitar Solo (as we know it)
In 1927, in the course of a moment, Lonnie Johnson changed everything. Along side Louis Armstrongs band, Lonnie recorded one of the most electric (although on an acoustic) guitar solos the world had yet to hear. He wasn't the first to take a break on a tune (though he's not far from the mark), but this style of soloing was the first of its kind. It revolutionized the voice of the guitar by combining jazz conventions with county blues language, and dug a well that legends like B.B. King spent their whole careers drinking from.
