Tyla is the FACE of African Music. Here's Why...

Tyla is a Superstar. Tyla is a SUPERSTAR. Even without the awards, even without the accolades, she is a bona fide STAR and is going to be here for the long run. However, her continued success and her steady rise to the top of entertainment hasn't come without controversy. Whether it's confusion around her identity, or her confidence, or her Grammy wins, people seem to ALWAYS have something negative to say about her. Following her second Grammy win in 2026, some African critics are claiming she is undeserving of the award as "nobody knew the song" or that "she should be moved to the Pop categories", and while the latter has elements of truth to it, those comments have an undertone of bitterness attached to it. I believe we are witnessing one of the future greats in the present, AND she is proudly African too. We should all be celebrating it. So today we're going to talk about it. All this and more, on this week's episode of 'Small Talk'.
