Der Geher in Hamburg: Eppendorf

I am Der Geher and start exploring parks and nature reserves. After Inselstraße, I walk along the Alster to Alsterdorfer Damm. On the other side of the Alster is the Eppendorfer Moor with views across the pond in the nature reserve. The route then leads back to the starting point along Ring 2. At 26 hectares, the Eppendorfer Moor is a very small nature reserve, but it is the largest inner-city moor in Europe. It was created as a fen after the last ice age and has been protected since 1982. The moor extends around a large expanse of water in the center and consists mainly of birch and alder swamp forest. The medium sundew (Drosera intermedia) was first described in the moor in 1798.
