The neutral conductor (N) is needed when: different single-phase loads are connected or the loads are unbalanced Then a balancing current flows back via the neutral conductor. 2. Delta connection setup In a delta connection: the three windings/loads are connected in a loop each winding is directly connected between two phase conductors each winding receives 400 V line voltage 👉 There is no common star point to which a neutral conductor could be connected. 3. Return Current Without a Neutral The current: flows from phase to phase the return path is via the other phase conductors the currents close themselves in the delta connection ➡️ A separate return conductor (neutral conductor) is not necessary. 4. Symmetry is Key In a symmetrical delta connection: all three currents are equal the sum of the currents is always zero no compensating current is generated Therefore: No current → no neutral conductor needed In the 400 V delta connection, the current flows only between the phase conductors. Since there is no star point and no compensating current, no neutral conductor is required.
