La décroissance dans le système de santé: Utopie ou nécessité? | Dr Éric Notebaert | TEDxHECMontréal
In his lecture, Éric Notebaert begins by addressing the impact of the climate crisis on human health and healthcare systems. He will discuss the specific challenges faced by vulnerable populations and the fragility of the healthcare system during extreme weather events. Next, he will address the ecological and carbon footprint of healthcare systems. More specifically, he will examine the detrimental environmental and human impact of certain investigations and medications. He will also discuss the use of endocrine disruptors in medicine and the complex issues of waste management. Finally, he will explore the efforts of various groups to make healthcare systems "greener" and more resilient. Is it possible to have a better, more humane, less polluting, and less expensive healthcare system? Is degrowth in healthcare truly a utopia? How can we rethink health and the healthcare system in the Anthropocene? These are the questions explored in this lecture. Dr. Notebaert has worked in the fields of health and the environment for several decades. In collaboration with several institutions and non-profit organizations, he has worked on a wide range of issues: energy, industrial projects, active transportation, pollution, food and pesticides, and the ecological and carbon footprint of the healthcare system. He is regularly invited to participate in working groups in these areas with various levels of government. He currently coordinates the Climate Crisis and Planetary Health Group at the Faculty of Medicine. One of the group's mandates is to train healthcare professionals on the immense challenges that the climate crisis poses to health and healthcare systems. Indeed, according to the World Health Organization, this crisis is the main public health problem facing humanity. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
