Alla scoperta delle donne medievali attraverso l'arte e i capelli (con Virtus Zallot)
Men and women with long hair or cruelly shaved heads; old men proud of their gray hair or hiding it with dye; hair flaunted or rejected, attacked or celebrated, neglected or beautifully styled; used to lift, drag, hold, and even fly. At the heart of ordinary and extraordinary gestures, in the Middle Ages, hair indicated social and existential status, distinguishing the poor from the rich, the good from the bad, the neighbor from the stranger, the layman from the cleric, the honest woman from the dissolute, the virgin from the married, the vain from the humble. We will discuss all this in this new and exciting live event with Professor Virtus Zallot, professor of Medieval Art History at the Santa Giulia Academy of Fine Arts in Brescia, and author of the book "On Heads in the Middle Ages," published by Il Mulino. Costantino, creator of the "Pillole di Storia" page, will join us in hosting this episode. It will be an unusual journey through the Middle Ages, seen from another perspective: that of hair, the unexpected protagonist of real and imaginary stories, passed down through literature and art. ================================ 📌 Professor Zallot's book, "On Heads in the Middle Ages," can be found at this link: https://amzn.to/44P8sZ0 =============================== 📌 Support our educational project by subscribing to the channel for the price of a coffee a month—you'll get tons of benefits!
