Throughout the interview, he reflects on his extraordinary journey: from delinquent to renowned filmmaker. At 22, José Giovanni was sentenced to death following a robbery that went wrong. Despite strained relations with his father, the latter fought to obtain a presidential pardon for him, granted by Vincent Auriol. After 11 years in prison, José Giovanni began writing a diary, which his lawyer encouraged him to publish. This is how he wrote Le Trou (The Hole), a landmark work that he would later adapt for film with Jacques Becker. From the cell to the camera, his story embodies an exceptional transformation, driven by a passion for writing and cinema. ***** Comments information ***** On our YouTube channels, you are free to express your opinion, even if critical.
