What Happened To Detroit’s Neighborhood Theaters?

Today, there are hardly any left. The Zellah Theatre was open by May 1914 and would change its name to the Moran Theatre in 1942. The Moran closed in the 1950s, and the building was converted into a church, which remained there until around 2006. The former Zellah Theatre was later used by Sanctuary Detroit, a music venue, for a short period before slipping into abandonment. Today, it's in incredibly rough shape, and will likely be demolished. 00:00 - A City of Neighborhoods 00:54 - Support Means The World 01:17 - The Zellah Theatre 01:44 - The Moran Theatre 02:17 - A Changing Business 02:44 - Declining Detroit 03:31 - Theatres Change Business 04:15 - Modern Theatres in Detroit 04:45 - Sanctuary Detroit 05:23 - A Blighted Theatre 06:00 - Final Thoughts Use my Historically Significant Interactive Map: https://www.eherg.com/map Check out recently added locations: https://www.eherg.com/locations
